80's retro photography project - Student photographer - Jessica Gonzalez - RGV Photography Workshops

RGV Photography Workshops

Retro Student Project

Photographer: Jessica Gonzales

Every year our intermediate and advanced students produce a retro shoot as a photography project.

They pick a decade, then choose a theme for their work. These projects are supposed reflect all the lessons they have learned, leading up to the Retro project.

This year, photography student, AC Baez seleted the 50’s comic book era as the theme for his retro project. The makeup, the backdrop, and the model selection was all on point.

80's Retro student photography project - Jessica Gonzalez
80’s Retro student photography project by student photographer Jessica Gonzalez. She used the talented model Joanna to pull off the difficult poses to hold while she shot.

Jessica chose the 80’s as her retro project. Jessica has been working hard on trying to create the right atmosphere for her Flashdance inspired retro project. She even used a fog machine in studio to create the right look, not to mention finding the right wardrobe. Also, Joanna was the perfect model for that concept. She was able to recreate and hold the pose needed for Jessica to photograph.

Shooting through “fog” is really hard because it throws off the sensor in the lens when it tries to focus. *Lenses need contrast to focus. Still, Jessica was able to pull it off using snoots and grids.

Congratulations Jessica! You pulled it off, and did a great job too! The photography school is proud. 🙂
